Molecular Detection of Leishmania (L.) mexicana (Kinetoplastida: Trypanostomatidae) DNA in Culicoides furens (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) from an Area with Autochthonous Canine Leishmaniasis in Northwestern Mexico

چکیده
Mexico is considered endemic for Leishmania; recent reports indicate autochthonous human and canine leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania mexicana in Sinaloa state. Lutzomyia sand fly are the primary vector of parasite, although no records phlebotomine vectors exist from Sinaloa. Other hematophagous dipterans, like Culicoides, could represent possible absence phlebotomines. The known distribution Culicoides includes southern portion state, northwestern Mexico, with furens. However, studies have demonstrated presence C. furens or its participation parasite’s life cycle Mexico. This study, therefore, sought to detect DNA captured an area were CDC light traps, identified morphologically, organized pools. was extracted, used amplify ribosomal ITS1 region Leishmania. PCR products digested HaeIII endonuclease; banding patterns obtained compared reference strains. detected five out nine pools (55%) female study offers first evidence L. furens, where exists fly.

Evaluation of naled applied as a thermal fog against Culicoides furens (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae).
Naled/diesel oil (1:99), applied as a thermal fog, was tested against the biting midge Culicoides furens. The insects were confined in small cages suspended at 4 heights on poles at progressively greater distances from the fog release point. In terms of population survival 24 hr after treatment, a parabolic equation accurately described the regression of percent survival on distance from the re...
متن کاملSeasonality of sand flies (Diptera: Psychodidae) and Leishmania DNA detection in vector species in an area with endemic visceral leishmaniasis
BACKGROUND Leishmaniases are a serious health problem in southeast Brazil, including the city of Belo Horizonte (BH), Minas Gerais state (MG), where there are high rates of incidence and mortality due to visceral leishmaniases. BH is divided into nine sanitary districts (SD) of which one, the Venda Nova SD, was selected for this study because it has high rates of positivity for canine leishmani...

The 55 known Culicoides species of Kenya, including the adult females of 52 species and the adult males of 46 species, are described. New taxa described for Kenya include C. isechnoensis n. sp. (subgenus Meijerehelea), C. karenensis n. sp. (similis group), and C. nairobiensis n. sp. (inornatipennis group). Three new species of the C. schultzei group are left unnamed. متن کاملSome New Records of Culicoides Species (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) from Iran
BACKGROUND Biting midges of the genus Culicoides act as vectors for important diseases affecting humans and both wild and domestic animals. Collection of adult Culicoides specimens in the near vicinity of vertebrate hosts is the major part of any bluetongue surveillance plan. There are old records of Culicoides species dated from 1963, 1968 and 1975. Therefore, it was decided to collect differe...
متن کاملThe histopathology of cutaneous leishmaniasis due to Leishmania (Leishmania) mexicana in the Yucatan peninsula, Mexico.
Localized Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (LCL) known as "chiclero's ulcer" in southeast Mexico, was described by SEIDELIN in 1912. Since then the sylvatic region of the Yucatan peninsula has been documented as an endemic focus of LCL. This study of 73 biopsies from parasitological confirmed lesions of LCL cases of Leishmania (Leishmania) mexicana infection was undertaken: 1) to examine host response a...
